GOSI (the General Organization for Social Insurance) takes a percentage of your salary each month. What's deducted depends on whether you're a Saudi national or an expatriate.

Saudi nationals

  • Employee pays 9.75% — 9% pension + 0.75% SANED (unemployment insurance).
  • Employer pays 11.75% — 9% pension + 0.75% SANED + 2% occupational hazards.

Expatriates

  • Nothing is deducted from your salary.
  • The employer pays 2% occupational hazards insurance only.

What wage is it based on?

The contributory wage is your basic salary plus housing allowance, capped at SAR 45,000 per month. Other allowances are generally not included.

Note on the new law

Employees who joined the labour market for the first time from July 2024 fall under the new Social Insurance Law, where pension rates rise gradually. Long-standing employees keep the standard rates above.
